Slinky Striped Top

With black and white being very trendy right now, particularly in the form of stripes, I was reminded this week of a lovely faux-layered blouse-vest-dress thingy, which I got for free and refashioned last year.

Sweater Vest Refashion - Before & After

All I did was pick out the seams attaching the striped fabric, and I had the perfect black sweater vest. But I was left with those striped remnants which have languished in my stash for over a year now. After much draping and piecing, I cobbled all the bits together into a new top!

In a nutshell, the sleeves became the bust and the skirt became the lower half, but if you're interested in details (and lots more pics), check out the full run-down over at CarissaKnits!

How's that for an almost-zero-waste refashion?

Love that top, and the way you've accessorised with those lime/yellow beads, really makes it pop!! Zingy! :)

It looks awesome! It's so great that you were able to every bit of fabric to make that top!

Altogether the idea and execution of the striped top is as brilliant as it is exciting = aaall thumbs and toes up for this job!
My only slight hesitation is the 'over-boxiness' of the bust-part by actually not being meant to be so or worse: you don't quite fit into something the like with your too young age. Sorry to say so.

May I kindly ask you to have another look at the centre-line of the bust-part, please?
I actually thought of perhaps cutting the centre a bit lower (= perhaps only scrunch it together?) and add something 'pseudo modesty panel' (if you want to keep the high closed cut) I think it might interrupt/brake that huuuugeness/boxiness of this bust part a bit.
PLEASE don't be offended - it's hard to give a recommendation to some perhaps improvement - especially to such a prof like you :-o.
Looking at the pic it even comes to my mind that a 'lazy fast way' of adding something like the eye a tad distracting horizontal black lace ribbon set to be place rather INto the top part might do the trick already?
It's a brilliant and in dead fashionable top, Clarissa, NO doubt on this - rather plenty of pink-envy!
YET: something is troubling my view at 'this centre-line' - sorry.
Yet the much 'bigger YET': YOUR life - YOUR decision! Means those things are the tiny things where we humans have got the right to behave a little bit like gods: Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven (which we haven't a guarantee for at this stage - so rather start with the 'earthly' part ;-) :-D )

With loving greetings, pink envy and no bad intentions at all - hence hopefully in further old friendship of the eager hobby-seamstresses,

Gerlinde
